Devblog #5 - New Shop & Powerups
Back On The Grind
Wow that last post blew up... Got ~60 views instead of the usual 20ish. I guess hard work pays off.
Anyways, I'm getting back on the grind fixing bugs and brainstorming new features. This is what I've done in the past week.
New Feature: Shop
There is a stop on the map! The shop!
The shop has been an idea in my mind for a long time. The idea of using metro-cards as currency came up in my mind when I was on a call with my bro @BotMoooo. He suggested a shop system for the Emergency Breaks and future power-ups. We first considered the Y vintage coins from NYC subways in the 90s. Here's a picture of that:
(Not my image btw)
However, we decided against it as we wanted a more diverse currency, consisting of certain rarities. (Eg. $5 bill, $10 bill) What better way to do that than to use the already existing MetroCards.
Here's the buy chart with the cards
The SingleRides - less valueable items (emergency stop)
Metrocards - harder to obtain items (all seeing eye)
RareMetrocards - op items
Shop concept art. (my art is very good!)
What are "all seeing eye"s and "co-conductor"s you may ask? Well, they are new power-ups that will probably exist in the game.
New Power-ups
There are several new power-ups that I have brainstormed in the past week. And I'd like to share that with y'all. However, keep in mind that these are just ideas for the mean time, and may never come to fruition.
All seeing Eye
The all seeing eye is a concept in which all the trains on the map get show their letters without having to be clicked on. This will help drastically so you don't have to click on every train to see its information.
Concept art:
Co-Conductor
The co-conductor is a concept in which 1/2 the trains on screen gets directed by a "co-conductor" and the player gets 1/2 the points (rounded up) added to their total. There is no penalization for using this. As long as you can afford it at a costly price of 3 MetroCards (regular).
Gambles & Raffles
Mystery Box -
80% - Emergency stop
14% - All Seeing Eye
5% - Co-conductor
1% Advanced Emergency Stop
There will also be a cash "raffle"/"lottery" where you deposit one MetroCard (regular) for a chance of more cards.
Cash Raffle -
1-10 Single Ride - 70%
1-3 MetroCards - 20%
1 Rare Metro-card - 10%
Notice: None of these odds are final and are subject to change
Bug fixes
It was mostly a relaxed and bugfixing week. There's been a lot of bug-fixes, ranging from unnoticeable to gamebreaking.
I won't talk too much about them as they are pretty boring to discuss and most of them are sitting rotting in my GitHub project.
In Conclusion
Anyways, that's all I have for this week of work. Next week I will work on implementing these features and smushing more bugs!
Happy coding,
-Mootbing
